100 Years of Cagliari Calcio – anniversary kit, new stadio plans

Sardinian club Cagliari Calcio have had some iconic names wear their famous red and blue kit throughout the years. From the legendary Gigi Riva to Enzo Francescoli, Gianfranco Zola to Radja Nainggolan, the list goes on and on. The Islanders recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the club, and to mark the occasion they commissioned illustrator @azkaalfi to create this excellent illustration depicting some of the legendary faces from throughout the clubs history.

The club also released a special centenary shirt in January along with a special centenary custom logo, which you can see below. Produced by Macron, the shirt was a special limited edition with only 2020 pieces available and comes in a specially produced package.

Cagliari have also recently signed a deal with developers Sportium to create the final design for their long-awaited new stadium – first unveiled in 2015 – which will take two years to construct. The Sardinians had their initial Guide Plan to reconstruct the Stadio Sant’Elia approved in November 2019, after agreeing to remove all commercial activities from the site. The renderings below of the new ‘Cagliari Arena’ (temporary name) look nothing short of stunning.
