AS Roma have unveiled their new home kit for 2016-17 season. Manufactured by Nike for the last two seasons, the 2016-17 strip is entirely red and strikingly features dark horizontal pinstripes across the length of the shirt.
It is the first time in Roma’s history that the home shirt features stripes across the front, which appears to be a current trend in all new Nike kits for the forthcoming season.
The horizontal lines get thicker as they progress further down the strip while a diagonal line cuts across them from the left shoulder to the right hip. The official website tells us the diagonal line proudly reflects the Colosseum in its current state.
A classy V-neck yellow collar displays the words AS Roma written on the band – probably one of the nicest features of the new kit. For the first time in 18 years the shirt is accompanied by matching red shorts, with yellow socks with a red linear graphic on the calf.
The attention to detail and fine stitching make it an elegant looking outfit, but as with all of Nike’s current kits the pinstripes are the most dominating feature and follow the template style of their other new kits.
With Roma’s second kit (white) and third kit (rumoured to be orange) yet to be unveiled, we hope for some originality in the design to make it stand out from the crowd.
