La Maglia piú bella del mondo

On the day Sampdoria celebrate the 74th anniversary of their founding, the new 2020/21 kome, away and 3rd kits have been released. Following the announcement that Sampdoria signed a new deal with Italian manufacturers Macron until 2026, replacing previous partner Joma, there had been much anticipation what Macron could do with the much acclaimed ‘La Maglia piú bella del mondo’ (the best shirt in the world).

We here at Forza27 felt that Joma’s previous home kits for Sampdoria were somewhat lacking (see: Forza27s Serie A 2019-20 Kit Review), coupled with some really poor away kits, so time for Macron to step up to the plate. And with this, they haven’t disappointed. On the home, a deep blue with a traditional collar, the iconic Sampdoria white, red, black & white band appears a little lower down than usual, presumably to accommodate a sponsor. As with last year, both the traditional Sampdoria crest and the ‘flag of Sampdoria’ crest appear, while the Macron logo is also replicated on the sleeves. White shorts and socks with blue details complete the new Sampdoria home kit.

The away and 3rd kits have also been unveiled. Using the same template as the home kit, they are rather unadventurous from Macron, but with this Sampdoria kit, perhaps nothing more is needed. The white away adds some additional blue lines across the band in the centre, and some blue also appears on the cuffs on the sleeves. The black 3rd kit also has these additional blue lines – interestingly it’s not just a direct copy of the home with black instead of blue. The goalkeeper shirt does try to do things somewhat different, but its perhaps best if it didn’t.
