AS Roma SPQR Kit Concepts 2017/18

Scroll down for more

Inspired by some very cool kit concepts which we’ve featured on the site recently, we decided to have a go ourselves. Here are three AS Roma kits for the 2017/18 season based on current suppliers Nike, but with some added extras. Using the traditional giallo (130C) and rosso (202C) colours which AS Roma will revert to for the 2017/18 campaign (changed in 2013 along with the controversial redesign of the club crest), the clubs iconic lupetto features strongly faded into all three kits. SPQR, used by AS Roma in the most recent Rome Derby match, features prominently as a sponsor. Roma still do not have a main shirt sponsor, so why not use SPQR as a permanent fixtures on the shirt as the club does represent the heart of the historic city?

Kit manufacturers such as Nike have come in for heavy criticism for using what is known as their ‘global templates’, with many club and national kits using the exact same style with their own colours and crests, so concept designs, however personal (or eccentric!) they may be, do make a strong and refreshing claim for designers to design kits. I for one would like to see clubs have more of a say in their kits and have them more personal and not simply be content with what Nike provide. With the new kit season upon us will we see this trend continue, or will we finally see some design and originality make a breakthrough?
