New AS Roma crest 2025

New AS Roma crest 2025 – in detail. A blast from the past as in an end of season message the AS Roma owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, drop a bombshell and release a new AS Roma crest.

A “progressive return of the historic ASR crest, a symbol that embodies the soul of this Club”, read the official statement. A masterstroke by the Friedkin’s in listening to the wishes of the fans and returning to the classic ‘ASR’.

The new crest is not an old logo from the club’s archive, as was reported in places, but rather a new crest which takes inspiration from the past. A new, more modern render of the iconic Lupa Capitolina, depicting a she-wolf suckling the mythical twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. An updated ‘ASR’ also features – one which is based on crests from the 50s’ and 60s’ – but again this is a newly stylised monogram. In a world of minimalistic overload, these subtle design updates to an old favourite respect heritage and tradition, and is refreshing to behold.

The new crest replaces the ‘Roma 1927’ version which was introduced by the previous American owners without any fan consultation in 2013. Dropping the ‘ASR’, it was doomed to fail from the start. Since then, AS Roma tifosi have protested vehemently against the new crest and demanded a return to the symbols of the club. A clear lesson in not listening to the fans in making such an important change. The new crest will not feature on the new AS Roma jerseys for the forthcoming 2025-26 season (already produced), but will come after that, in the build up to the clubs centenary, with whispers of a potentially future brand refresh coming down the line for that landmark occasion.

The official statement continued: “We are also looking forward to celebrating the new season to come with all of you on 22 July – a day rooted in the hearts of generations of Romanisti. As we approach the Centenario, we want to reaffirm our dedication to honoring the history, traditions, and identity of Roma.

The respect that we all owe to the founding fathers is equal to respect due to the sentiment of our fans. This is why, fully aware of the historical value and significance of 7 June 1927 as the foundation of AS Roma, we have decided that 22 July will be the Club’s dedicated and special celebration day, a yearly milestone and anniversary to unite the fans and Club in pride and affection for AS Roma’s extraordinary heritage and story.”

This new crest is a throwback to Roma of old, and is a clear win. It may not be the much loved ‘ASR’ of 2000, or the iconic Lupetto of Gratton, but it comes close.
